Shopify stores for German brands, built to German checkout rules.

Binevi designs and builds Shopify stores for German brands and retailers: a checkout and legal pages built to German consumer law, order data ready for e-invoicing, migrations from Shopware, Magento or WooCommerce, and storefronts in German and English. Our team works with yours from Canada, six hours behind Berlin.

For a German store, the critical pieces are the ones the law and your customers see first: the wording of the checkout, the payment methods on offer, and invoices that meet the e-invoicing rules.

What a German store has to get right

German consumer law, invoicing rules and buying habits shape a store more than its design does. These are the decisions to settle first.

  • Checkout

A checkout and legal pages that hold up

German law asks a lot of an online shop. The final order button must say that the order carries an obligation to pay, as "zahlungspflichtig bestellen" does. Consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal, and since June 2026 shops must offer a withdrawal button that is always available. Every commercial website also needs a legal notice (Impressum). We build the checkout wording, the withdrawal button and the legal pages into the store; your legal adviser supplies the texts.

  • Payments

    The payment methods on offer

Shopify Payments is available to stores based in Germany, with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and Klarna, and PayPal is added as its own integration. SEPA Direct Debit is not offered through Shopify Payments, Sofort is no longer offered and giropay has closed, so if your customers expect to pay by bank, the set-up has to cover it. We settle the mix before the build.

  • Tax

    VAT at 19% and e-invoicing from 2027

Germany charges VAT at 19%, with a reduced 7% rate for some goods. Between businesses established in Germany, every business has had to be able to receive structured e-invoices (XRechnung or ZUGFeRD) since January 2025, and issuing them becomes mandatory from January 2027, or January 2028 for businesses with turnover of EUR 800,000 or less. Sales to consumers are not covered. If you sell to German businesses, the store has to hand complete order data to your ERP or e-invoicing provider.

  • Language

German and English on one store

Shopify Markets can run a German storefront and an English one from a single store, with their own domains or folders. We build the structure and keep every template translatable; your team or translator supplies the German copy. Little Magpie, one of our Canadian clients, runs its store in three languages.

  • Migration

Moving from Shopware, Magento or WooCommerce

We map what moves automatically, what needs scripting and what is rebuilt: products, customers, orders, content and URLs. WooCommerce has a Shopify import route; Magento's built-in export leaves out orders. Redirects go in before launch so search rankings survive the move.

  • Launch

    Registered before you ship

Since August 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation and Germany's new packaging law (VerpackDG) apply. Sellers still register in the LUCID packaging register before putting packaged goods on the market, and a seller without a German establishment that ships straight to German consumers must first appoint an authorised representative in Germany. It sits outside the store build, so it goes on the launch checklist.

Six hours from Berlin

Our team works from Markham, Ontario. Toronto mornings are German afternoons, so reviews and demos happen in that overlap, and decisions are shared in writing between calls.

  1. Discovery

We review your store, systems, data and goals, and agree in writing what the project must achieve before anything is designed.

  2. Architecture

Store structure, markets, integrations and data flows are mapped and signed off, so design and development build on decisions rather than assumptions.

  3. Design

The templates that carry your revenue are designed in Figma for desktop and mobile, and approved before development begins.

  4. Build

Theme, apps and integrations are developed on a staging copy of your store, which you review as the work progresses.

  5. Launch

Data migration, redirects and quality checks come before a monitored go-live, planned around your trading calendar.

  6. Evolve

After launch, the same team continues on an ongoing plan: improvements, new features and support.

The working-day overlap

  • Toronto · Eastern Time

    08:00–10:00

    Our call window, all year

  • Berlin · UTC+1, +2 in summer

    14:00–16:00

    6 hours ahead of Toronto

Germany and Toronto share a Monday-to-Friday week, and both change their clocks, so the six-hour gap holds for most of the year.

Is Binevi the right fit?

We would rather tell you now than halfway through a project. This is where we are, and are not, the right partner.

A good fit if

  • You sell to German consumers and need the checkout, legal pages and invoices to hold up.
  • You are moving from Shopware, Magento or WooCommerce and want rankings and customer accounts to survive the move.
  • You want German and English storefronts run from one store.

Probably not the best fit if

  • You need a team that meets you in person in Germany. Our team works from Canada.
  • You need legal advice. We build what your lawyer specifies; we are not lawyers.

Questions buyers ask

Is Shopify Payments available in Germany?

Yes, for stores based in Germany: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and Klarna. PayPal is connected as its own integration, and SEPA Direct Debit is not offered through Shopify Payments.

Can a Shopify store meet the German e-invoicing rules?

Yes, with the right hand-over. E-invoices in XRechnung or ZUGFeRD format are produced by your ERP, accounting software or an e-invoicing app from the order data in Shopify, so we design that hand-over, with everything the invoice needs, as part of the build. The rules cover sales between businesses established in Germany, not sales to consumers.

Do you write the legal texts?

No. Your legal adviser or a legal-text service provides the Impressum, terms, withdrawal and privacy texts. We build them into the store, keep them linked where they must appear, and set the checkout wording they call for.

Have you worked in the German market before?

Binevi expanded into the German market in 2019, before we focused on Shopify in 2021. Our Shopify work is run from Canada, and on a call we will walk you through the projects most relevant to yours.
